My courses and workbook, “A Crash Course: Preparing for a Catastrophic Even,” were born after I experienced a tragic and catastrophic crash in 1997.

A dump truck went through a stop sign and collided with a school bus carrying thirteen people. Three young students and the truck driver lost their lives as a result of the crash.

Fast on the scene, the National Transportation Safety Board investigated, lawsuits were filed, and life in a school transportation department continued. For seven years we functioned in a state of fear: there was so much we didn’t know.

Ever after the crash, I made every decision based on knowing the worst that can happen. As a company, we got through it with dignity, representing our industry well on a national stage.

There was a great personal toll on everyone involved. Some people stayed the course while others had to leave their fields, whether they were bus drivers, emergency response staff, or other collaterals.

It took me twenty years to tell the story publicly. Since that time, I have worked with people across the country, sharing the insights I’ve gained.

With a home base in Minnesota, USA, I offer in-person and virtual sessions, providing valuable insights to help transportation departments, emergency response teams, and communities plan for the unthinkable.
